Integrating Glassfish 3.1.2 with Eclipse Indigo on Ubuntu

If you are interested in developing JEE applications, Glassfish is a great choice for an application server. It is robust, scalable and is free. The latest version available currently is 3.1.2

You can download it from the official website here.

Once it is downloaded, follow the steps here to get it running on your Ubuntu system,
$ mkdir Glassfish312

$ cd Glassfish312

$ mv ~/Downloads/ .

$ unzip

$ cd glassfish3/bin

$ ./asadmin start-domain

This should get the server started, and you will be able to visit the Admin Console at http://localhost:4848/
Glassfish Admin Console
Trivial, wasn't it?

Alright, now let us start Eclipse.
Choose File -> New -> Other and select Server,
Create a new server
Then choose download additional server adapters,
Download additional server adapters

There, from the list of available adapters, choose Glassfish Server Opensource Edition 3. Click Finish, and you Eclipse will download the server adapter. You might restart Eclipse after the installation completes.

After the restart, choose, File -> New -> Other and select Server. In the server wizard, scroll till you find Glassfish Server 3.1.2 (typing in glassfish helps too)

Select Next. You can enter the password for your server (if you had set it earlier) here. Click finish, and you are done.

You have now fully configured your system to create and deploy the latest JEE applications.

Please do take a minute to write your feedback, comments. I am really looking forward to them. Thanks.
